One of my favorite parts of homeschooling is the amount of books we are able to consume on a weekly basis. One of our favorite summer time reads is How to eat fried worms by Thomas Rockwell. This book never fails to send each of us in to fits of laughter and my kids love coming up with different ways they personally would take on this challenge. If you are not familiar with this book it is a story about a boy who has been dared to eat 15 worms in 15 days. My oldest son Robert believes the best way to take on this challenge would be to cook the worm into a burger, he swears he could eat a worm burger. My daughter Madeline believes that a worm wrapped in bacon could be quite tasty and my youngest son Daniel things that a raw worm is the way to go. I think their answers are hysterical and while we wouldn’t take this challenge on in reality, it is still fun coming up with worm recipes.
If you haven’t heard of this book I highly recommend it especially if you have older elementary aged kids. There is even a movie that came out in 2006 and my kids enjoyed looking for all of the differences between the book and the movie. So now my question is for you and your kids:
If you had to eat a worm what condiments or toppings would you use to make it more palatable?
